About the Book

Cloud Country is a graphic novel in progress depicting the ups and downs of being black in contemporary East Asia. It is a work of ideas based on the experiences of the author, Aaliyah Bilal, who has lived in the region for the last 15 years. Author/illustrator Robert Liu Trujillo lends his talents to the effort, using beautiful sepia-tone watercolor images to bring the story to life. It is our hope that someday soon, Cloud Country will reside in libraries and bookstores everywhere and serve to spark conversation about the ways we reach across difference to understand one another.
